About the Miranda Naturalists' Trust


MIRANDA NATURALISTS' TRUST:
The Miranda Naturalists' Trust was formed to encourage people to visit the coastline and appreciate its wide range of flora and fauna. The Trust encourages research and other educational activities. The Trust is involved with studying bird migration.
The Trust owns and operates the Miranda Shorebird Centre which offers a range of events and education programmes through the year.

WHAT THE TRUST OFFERS:
  • A series of open days featuring guest speakers prominent in their field.
  • The Trust actively promotes field research into the Firth of Thames ecosystem.
  • Educational opportunities for schools and students. An education resource kit for schools is available on request.
  • General interpretation, displays and regular lectures.
  • A 6 day ornithological field course run each January.
  • A quarterly magazine published for Trust members.
  • The use of the Centre as a headquarters and a meeting place. Conference facilities available.
  • Overnight accommodation at reasonable rates.

    We are an independent charitable trust. We do not receive direct funding from the state. Our main sources of income are our membership, which currently stands at 800; revenue from accommodation; souvenirs such as T-shirts, books etc; and donations.

    CENTRE CHARGES:
    Day Visits - no charge but a donation is appreciated
    School Parties - day visit including interpretative talk - $3.50 per child + guided walk $4.50
    Tour Groups - talk by prior arrangement $4.50 per person
    Hire of Conference Room - $150.00 per day
